Amidst the ongoing discourse about the supply issues with the Next Gen car in NASCAR, journalist Kelly Randall shed some light on the state of the pit guns. It cannot be overstated just how crucial the effectiveness and time of a pit stop are to a team.

And what makes a successful pit stop, is yes, the crew members, but more importantly, the pit guns.

As we all know, NASCAR introduced a new pit gun a few months ago in addition to the wheel changes on the new car. The Next Gen car will don a single lug nut wheel.

So naturally, the pit guns also had to evolve. And this is something a fan on Twitter asked Randall as he wrote, “Kelly… serious question. Are those NASCAR specd guns or are teams able to make their own guns like a few years ago? I’ve been watching some other teams practice and Those guns looked awfully fast.”

And Kelly Randall clarified by saying, “The guns are still being supplied by a vendor.”

This could come off as worrying, but only slightly. Because several teams and drivers have already admitted to a shortage of parts and, naturally, more cars ahead of the new season.

NASCAR reassures teams amid supply issue worry

NASCAR’s Senior Vice President of Racing Innovation John Probst recently spoke about this issue in a press conference. He said, “I’d say that right now we don’t see any parts or pieces that are gonna keep any car from racing in an event. We’re working with the teams to make sure we implement backup cars in an efficient manner.”

Probst added, “And I think that while we’re concerned, and I think that everyone is concerned — and it’s probably rightly so, that’s what we do. We worry about things like that — we don’t see anything right now that’s gonna keep anybody from racing at an event.”
