Bill Belichick will no longer serve as the New England Patriots coach after astounding 24 seasons. Like any other sport, the debate about the greatest players and coaches will rage on but Belichick is worthy of that stature. Ever since the news broke about Belichick’s departure from the Patriots, the sporting community has sent out their gratitude and respect to the 71-year-old. And NASCAR’s own RFK Racing followed suit.

In an effort to contextualize Belichick’s departure, the NASCAR team shared a nostalgic post on social media platform X. Back in the day in 2000, RFK Racing ran the iconic Ford Taurus. They reminded everyone of this iconic period with a throwback to the start of the NFL coach’s legendary career. This was not it, as historian and stat geek, NASCARMAN soon gave a rebuttal to this post by RFK Racing by showing the packed venues and iconic Winston Cup era.

RFK Racing reminisces their Ford Taurus liveries from 2000

The 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup Series Championship was iconic. Back then, NASCAR was in its peak years. Those were the days when Ford, Pontiac, and Chevrolet used to dominate the circuits. Paint schemes and livery have seen improvement over the years but as highlighted by RFK Racing, the 2000’s Ford Taurus livery was indeed something to marvel at.

Taking to X while remembering Bill Belichick’s first season as the Patriots coach, they wrote, “What our team looked like when Bill Belichick was hired by the Patriots: hello ford taurus.” Jeff Burton’s No.99 Taurus was also amongst the championship contenders and finished 3rd in the points standings. While the John Deere livery with Yellow and Green paint schemes on No.97 still holds a special place in the hearts and minds of NASCAR fans. But there was more.

Motorsport geek account NASCARMAN replied to the same post and added a context of how the series looked like when Belichick was hired as a coach. The user replied with a post captioned, “What NASCAR looked like when Bill Belichick was hired as Patriots coach.” The photos spoke for themselves as NASCAR fans for once knew how good NASCAR used to be back in the day.

Most hardcore NASCAR fans must know what the sport was like a couple of decades ago. Nostalgia can be a blessing and curse at the same time and this was the case when RFK Racing shared pictures of Ford Taurus from the 2000 Cup series season on X.

A fan pointed out the Deere car from RFK racing remembering that this was the moment they got into NASCAR. “The Deere car is the car that got me in NASCAR and is one of the unmatched best schemes in my fandom”.

A creative fan chose not words but shared a GIF relatable to most of the OG NASCAR aficionados. The X user’s post read, “Those were the days“.

Another follower went on to remember the collection of merchandise they had from the era. “Good looking cars, Had t-shirts of all but the 60.🏁”.

While we are talking about collections, another fan replied with an impressive picture of his entire NASCAR collection suggesting that seeing the post made him feel old. “Nothing like making a guy feel old”.

NASCAR was just different back then, for good or bad. And fans connected to the sport like never before and the Ford Taurus is just an example of that.
