Earlier this month, 23XI Racing dropped a massive bombshell when they recruited Tyler Reddick for the 2024 season. Admittedly, this came as a massive curveball for Richard Childress Racing. In light of the revelation, NASCAR spotter Brett Griffin spoke about the move and what it means for everyone involved.

He said, “I was speechless. I looked at this and I was like, ‘Man! We told you guys, two weeks ago that RCR had screwed up’. By not announcing an extension to a contract. Only announcing that they had picked up his option for one season.”

“We told you guys they screwed up. So spot off for RCR, spot off for whoever wrote that contract. Spot off for whoever didn’t make this a more long-term deal.”

“Freddie talked to Tyler, I talked to Tyler, its very obvious that he wanted, in the beginning of the season, to have a long-term deal with RCR. For whatever reason, that didn’t come into fruition, so spot off for RCR. I don’t know how you put yourself as a company in this position.”

According to Griffin, Richard Childress Racing should have capitalized on the Road America triumph. Many could have predicted that after Reddick won, he would have been hot property in the market. Unfortunately, they made the mistake of settling for his short-term future. So, 23XI Racing did the smart thing and struck while the iron was hot.
