Rick Hendrick Net Worth: How Did the Hendrick Motorsports Owner Make His Money?

In 2021, at the Coca-Cola 600, Hendrick Motorsports became the winningest team in NASCAR Cup history with their 269th race win. If before that day there was a doubt in Hendrick being arguably the most iconic of teams in the history of the sport, that doubt quickly evaporated afterward. And while all their wins came at the hands of some of the biggest names in NASCAR history, one man remained a constant throughout – team owner Rick Hendrick.

The 72-year-old embarked on his career at the age of 23 when he opened a small, used-car lot. Then at 26, he bought a Chevrolet franchise in Bennettsville, South Carolina, and became the youngest American to have a Chevy dealership.

It was then that he founded Hendrick Automotive Group, a company that earned $9 billion in revenue in 2016.

In fact, HAG is the sixth-largest dealership in the United States with over 140 franchises. Now, as you can imagine, Rick Hendrick is quite a rich man.

So rich that his estimated net worth is in the ballpark of $1 billion.

Rick Hendrick founded Hendrick Motorsports in 1984 as ‘All Star Racing’. Now this team was later renamed to what we know it as today. But had it remained as ‘All Star Racing’, it would’ve made still sense considering the stellar history of their drivers.

Because HMS has been associated with some of the greatest race car drivers from the past and present. Be it Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, Chase Elliott, or Kyle Larson, all of them have raced for Mr.H.

Between 1984 and 2021, Hendrick Motorsports have won 280 races in the Cup Series, with 14 cup series titles, and 231 pole positions.

And as it stands right now, Hendrick Motorsports’ legacy, Rick Hendrick’s legacy, and his bank balance are all set to grow even more.
