Chase Elliott‘s off-track charisma overshadowed the in-race happenings at Ally 400 race in Nashville. Spotted with famed gymnast, Olivia Dunne, the Hendrick Motorsports superstar, caused more dating rumors among fans. On the racing front, Elliott wasn’t enjoying a great year. An injury and a one-race suspension left him trailing behind in the 2023 championship standings.

Back for the second half of the 2023 season, Elliott has been steadily gaining on the competition. Finishing at the 4th spot at Nashville, a post-race interview witnessed an uncharacteristic change in Chase Elliott, entering him into Kyle Busch’s good books.

“I almost was the caution”: Chase Elliott acknowledges his wreck

This year’s Cup Series race at Charlotte saw Chase Elliott wreck Denny Hamlin. While Hamlin felt he was wrecked intentionally, the HMS #9 driver was steady on his argument that he completely lost control. Unapologetic for his actions at Charlotte, Elliott was handed a one-race suspension by NASCAR, leading him to miss out on the race at Gateway Motorsports Park.

For some time now, Kyle Busch has pushed his views of modern-era NASCAR drivers losing respect for each other, giving rise to various debates in the NASCAR world. Elliott’s unapologetic behavior after the wreck involving Denny Hamlin further echoed Busch’s point. Now, having had time to reflect during his suspension and the NASCAR off-week, Chase Elliott has come out a brand new man.

Many viewers missed out on the final lap ‘almost wreck’ of Chase Elliott. The HMS driver was almost the cause of a caution being called out but narrowly avoided it. Elliott apparently spun out while trying to pass Brennan Poole on the inside when his rear tires lost grip, sending him into a spin. Luckily, the #9 car’s spin was absorbed by Poole’s #15 Ford, which rubbed into the outside wall. Both drivers recovered quickly, and the race progressed without the need for caution.

Chase Elliott uncharacteristically thanked the driver in a post-race interview. “I almost was the caution! I don’t know if you all caught that or not. I did wreck and whoever (he didn’t realize in the heat of the race that it was Poole) was outside of me, basically saved me from going around,” an enthusiastic Chase told media personnel.

This act of Chase Elliott’s showing respect to his fellow driver is sure to land him in Kyle Busch’s good books for sportsman-like conduct. Fans too were all praises for their ‘Rizz King.’
