Team Penske driver Austin Cindric made history last month when he won the Daytona 500, the first rookie to have done so. But at the same time, the car in which he scripted history, the No.3 Penske Mustang, had to skip a historical Daytona 500 winner’s tradition.

The tradition in the subject is of the winner’s car being displayed at the Daytona museum for a year. However, this year, it had to be ignored because of ongoing supply issues with the Next-Gen car.

As a result, instead of the real car, it was decided that a display car with an identical wrapping will be kept in the museum.

But now, thanks to team owner Roger Penske and NASCAR, the car in the museum is going to be the actual one after all.

“The Austin Cindric winning Daytona 500 car is back in Daytona and will stay there as part of the tours. NASCAR had planned to allow the team to re-use the car b/c parts/pieces shortage, but Team Penske didn’t want to race it again b/c historical meaning,” journalist Bob Pockrass tweeted.

While Roger Penske said, “Supply chain was a big issue for us as we began the season. NASCAR sat down with us, and we worked out the details for our inventory going forward.”

“He has been the most influential person in my life outside of my parents, and that’s not about racing,” Cindric said.
