The entire automobile industry in the US was feeling the heat when President Trump announced the 25% tariff on imported cars and auto parts. NASCAR, like the rest of the big players, was not sure how severely this could impact on-track racing. It’s not a secret that teams in NASCAR are running a tight ship, and additional expenditure could led to detrimental outcomes for them.
Notable names like Rick Hendrick and Roger Penske, who have huge dealership networks, were on their toes. NASCAR commissioner, Steve Phelps, addressing the issue, said, “I had a conversation with Rick Hendrick and obviously his base business is affected by the tariffs. What that looks like for him, he doesn’t know, but you can bet he’s monitoring that on a daily basis, and we’re doing the same.” While the auto racing series is figuring out a way to deal with this jolt, the normal car consumer is going to feel the impact of these tariffs soon. And this, in particular, is bad news for those who prefer Ford automobiles.

Ford Maverick and Bronco trucks to be costlier
Mexico-produced model by the Ford Motor Company is expected to increase by $2000, making them the first automaker to adjust their sticker pricing following the tariffs announced by President Trump. Mustang Mach-E electric SUV, Maverick pickup and Bronco Sport are the models that are going to see a surge in prices. Going by the Reuters report, the dealership networks have been informed about these new pricing via notice.
Roger Penske has a huge stake in the Ford company and is a trusted partner. The Penske Automotive Group owns and operates a wide network of Ford dealerships. This also includes the Bill Brown Ford in Livonia, Michigan, which is the largest sales volume dealership. According to a Ford spokesperson, these price hikes will come into effect on the vehicles built after May 12, which will land in the dealership showrooms by late June.
The initial pushback from the automobile sector saw the Trump administration soften its stance on the impact of the tariffs. Especially, with the auto parts needed to produce automobiles in the country along with raw materials required in the process, this also saved them from double tariffs. But the 25% tariff on the 8 million vehicles the U.S. imports annually will remain unchanged.

None of the major auto makers had announced a hike in the pricing of the vehicles so far. But now that Ford has made the first move, others are expected to follow suit. Not just consumer vehicles, but the NASCAR fans are also expected to shell out more dollars out of their pocket to acquire the diecasts. Lionel Racing, who holds the exclusive rights to produce diecasts versions of the NASCAR stock cars, have increased its prices due to tariffs that affect imports from China.

They have decided to halt the pre-orders, citing uncertainty in the market. “This is a temporary measure until the current tariff situation settles down. We are still working with the race teams to get sales sheets put together, we are still obtaining reference photos and artwork for raced-wins and standard cars, and we are still sampling and producing diecasts.” The company said in a statement.
Roger Penske and his company are in a tough spot and will look for plans to deal with this situation. But, as far as racing is concerned, his NASCAR team is back on track after a slow start to the 2025 Cup Series season.

Team Penske is on the verge of a three-peat in Kansas
After Austin Cindric’s win at Talladega, defending Cup Series champion Joey Logano braved the chaotic Texas race and locked himself in the playoffs. A total of 12 caution flags, multiple wrecks and crashes put some of the strong contenders out of the race last Sunday, but Logano managed to dodge the chaos and was in the right place at the right time. After the final restart, he positioned himself behind leader Michael McDowell and made the race-winning pass with 4 laps to go.
The Spire Motorsports driver was at a disadvantage, banking on a two-tire strategy. It wasn’t just a huge day for Logano, but his teammate Ryan Blaney also registered a top 5 finish. With two Penske drivers already opening their accounts, a win by Blaney in Kansas would be a huge result for the organization. With engine problems and a streak of DNFs, Blaney was being hard on himself after not being able to close the race out in Texas.

” Just driver making dumb decisions and not doing his job. I appreciate the team. The 12 car was a fast car today. I just can’t do anything right currently. Hopefully it will work itself out.” He said after the race. Last time around, when Blaney visited Kansas, he bagged a P4 finish, but given his current situation, he would take nothing less than a race win.
