Ross Chastain has conveniently positioned himself as Public Enemy no. 1. Although it added more context to his car number, he doesn’t seem to take it too seriously. After last weekend’s race at Kansas, the watermelon man put his name on two more drivers’ hit lists. One of them is the latest new winner in the 2022 season, Bubba Wallace, and, the other is of course Kevin Harvick.

But the Trackhouse racing driver is actually apologetic about what he did.

Chastain drives into every race, knowing well enough that half the grid will come after him any moment they see fit. Of course, it keeps piling up, but it all started back in Pocono, where he hit Denny Hamlin. And he’s well aware of his actions, as he accepts his fate.

He talked about it ahead of Friday practice at Briston Motor Speedway. Ross said, “I can’t speak for what other people are thinking. I just know that I hit the wall nice and hard at Pocono.”

Well, at least he knows what’s coming for him. But he’s quite apologetic about it, too. In fact, he acknowledged that what happened to Harvick was his fault, and he apologized.

“Didn’t lift in time, didn’t leave him enough room, forced him into the wall.”

He accepts that Harvick’s crash “was still my fault.”

But, in this process, he made another enemy that got tangled up in the Harvick-Chastain mess-up at Kansas. Of course, we’re talking about Wallace.

Earlier this season, the watermelon man made an enemy with Kyle Busch, the last person anyone would want to piss off. And of course, him being who he is, devised a whole new verb for victims of the Trackhouse driver. Call them “Chastain’d”

Of course, Wallace got tangled up when Ross hit the #4 car. And he was not happy at all. Well, sure, he did go on to win his first race this season, so that unhappy state didn’t last too long.

But the whole process brought out a caution, and a very agitated Bubba yelled, “God, f**k, Ross!”.

But it sure would be difficult to drive knowing the entire playoff grid is coming to wreck you. But do you think he deserves the slack he gets? Or has he become a victim of his previous mistakes?
