A couple of days ago, NASCAR Xfinity driver Ross Chastain was ecstatic to learn of his promotion to the Cup Series. Recently, he spoke to FOX Sports about how he will be preparing for his maiden stint with Chip Ganassi Racing.

He said that he feels a lot more prepared to take on the top tier of NASCAR racing. But for the moment, he is focusing on the rest of the season and ‘maximizing’ the coming races. Since he is not participating in the Cup Series, all he can do is take notes from the senior drivers.

What else did Ross Chastain say?

He said, “I have been in a lot, but haven’t necessarily watched a lot from an inside perspective. So there’s a lot of things, I didn’t know until recently we have our driver-to-crew-chief-and-spotter channel 1. We have a channel 2 for the engineers and crew chief and spotter talk.”

Ross Chastain also opened up on other channels that go back to different places. He acknowledged that his team has a whole network of people who work to fix any issues that he reports.

So when he is able to finally grasp the idea of the due process, Chastain is able to keep his frustrations in check. This is likely because he is able to understand what is at stake, and that the team is aware of it.

Chastain insisted that it is not his place to understand how elements like the chassis or the software, work. Instead, he aims to complete his own job to the best of his ability, and that is driving. Ross Chastain confessed that if he does not win the Xfinity race, he will be upset, initially.

However, from that point onwards, he will train his focus on the Cup car for a day, then he can finish off his Xfinity stint. Of course, the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity season is not over yet, so it would be premature to think about the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series.
