After running 5 races with RSS Racing in 2023, CJ McLaughlin will be back in the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series. The 31-year-old will have a part-time contract with RSS and his first race of the season will be at Daytona a few weeks away. While McLaughlin’s best result last year came with the team at Martinsville where he earned a commendable P13 finish, the number of races McLaughlin will take part in 2024 is yet to be confirmed..

Earlier in the silly season, some reports suggested Frankie Muniz could be on his way to RSS Racing, presumably to fill up their part-time role. However, those rumors turned out to be baseless as both the team and Muniz denied any such agreement. The Malcolm in the Middle star is yet to confirm his plans for the 2024 season.

CJ McLaughlin will be driving the #38 car for RSS Racing in 2024 alongside 3 full-time Xfinity Series drivers – Kyle Sieg, Ryan Sieg, and Blaine Perkins. He made his debut in the competition 5 years ago and in that time, has raced for several teams that include BJ McLeod Motorsports, Mike Harmon Racing, MBM Motorsports, and Emerling-Gase Motorsports.

Having started 26 races so far in his Xfinity Series career, the driver is yet to have a record he can boast about. In 4 years, McLaughlin has finished in the top 10 only once and has failed to accumulate a single victory. His best result was a P10 finish at the Texas Motor Speedway in 2022 with RSS Racing.

According to Joseph Srigley of TobyChristie.com, the organization does not have any immediate plans of running the #38 car full-time. “A representative from @RSS283839 tells me that the organization plans to field a fourth, part-time entry in the NASCAR Xfinity Series throughout the season. Kyle Sieg, Ryan Sieg, and Blaine Perkins will be piloting the organization’s three full-time entries in 2024,”the journalist had reported back in December.

With CJ McLaughlin in the #38, RSS Racing will be hoping for a positive performance out of the team. The 31-year-old has a lot of experience and will look to do better than last year. The same can be said of the team’s latest full-time recruit, Blaine Perkins, who was unceremoniously dumped after the first 5 races in 2023.

RSS Racing was not the team that dumped him. Perkins was supposed to have his full-time rookie season in the competition with SS-Green Light Racing. However, reports have indicated that poor performances in the first 5 races saw the team part ways with the 23-year-old. He then joined Our Motorsports and finished off what was a lackluster year.

This time around, as a new recruit at RSS Racing, the 23-year-old will be looking to right those wrongs. Last year, his best finish was a P13 in Martinsville and he only ended up 29th on the points table. However, given the situation he faced after the first 5 races, Perkins was probably just happy to have a seat for the rest of the year.

One take at a time

Drivers these days need to be more like Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace. Well, now you know who my favorites are. For me, it all began with my interest in F1, but I was just tired of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen showing unparalleled dominance.
