Last year, Ryan Newman became a victim of a violent crash at the Daytona 500. After spending a few days in the hospital, he was able to make a full recovery and get back to racing once again. Now, the veteran makes a return to the track and is eager to tame it. He hopes for a poetic finish where he wins the Daytona 500.

Newman said, “That was the hope back in September, whenever it was when we raced there. Have that dramatic chapter come to an end with a victory and a playoff berth. It would be even more special to come back a year later and have an opportunity to do it.

“I’ve been around long enough to know that there are drivers that have never gotten a top-10, let alone a top-5. Or in my case, a top-10 on the roof let alone have a shot at the Daytona 500, the way I did last year.”

He acknowledged he would be happy with just being in the hunt for the win. Of course, the endgame is to actually win the race, and Ryan Newman is more than capable of that.

Can Ryan Newman actually win the race?

It is worth mentioning that the Daytona 500 has a history of yielding surprise winners. Newman himself won the race in 2008, so he will want a repeat of that feat. As evidenced in the past editions of the 500, the driver is definitely quick around the speedway.

The only question that remains is, can he survive the race in its entirety?

Obviously, no race is over until the checkered flag drops. So, Ryan Newman just has to make his way to the front of the pack when it really counts. The Roush Fenway Racing driver will now head into the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Daytona 500 with a big point to prove.
