In NASCAR, competition among the drivers is obvious and normal. But the level of competitiveness increases when international drivers come to participate in a NASCAR race. Something similar happened this weekend when Shane Van Gisbergen, a driver of the Supercars Championship, didn’t just participate in the Grant Park 220 but also won the winner’s trophy, surpassing other experienced NASCAR racers. It was a big deal for NASCAR drivers like Chase Elliott to lose to an international player who is new to NASCAR.

Chase Elliott, the #9 driver who finished in 3rd, wasn’t very happy with Van Gisbergen and made some brutal comments about the driver after the race.

Kyle Larson, who finished in 4th, joined him and made some interesting statements too. Now, Van Gisbergen has replied to Kyle Larson, and surprisingly, what the #5 driver said was very similar to what Chase Elliott said about the #91 driver.

Chase Elliott Has Some Interesting Comments on Shane Van Gisbergen’s Weekend

Shane Van Gisbergen was a one-time participant in the 2023 season of the NASCAR Cup series for Project 91, with his debut race at NASCAR being at the Chicago Street Course. However, Being a driver at the Supercars Championship Racing, he was already familiar with driving on a street course.

In light of this, he might have had an advantage over other NASCAR drivers who were new to Street tracks. So it could probably be a reason why Shane Van Gisbergen won the Grant Park 220 with an outstanding performance of 55 points.

There were NASCAR drivers who weren’t very happy about Van Gisbergen’s win and made some fascinating comments about the driver after the match. Chase Elliott was one of the racers who felt that Van Gisbergen overshadowed other NASCAR drivers.

Elliott, expressing his anger, made a statement, “I don’t want to speak for everybody else, but he made me look bad, and I kind of think the rest of us, too. He’s going to go home and tell all of his friends how bad we are.”

But to keep things professional, Chase Elliott took out his Twitter and congratulated Van Gisergen for the win.

After Elliott’s honest but not-too-sweet statement, another NASCAR driver joined him and shared his opinions about Van Gisergen and his performance on the Chicago Street Course. Interestingly, Van Gisergen replied to this NASCAR driver.

The interviewer further added, “He said, ‘I think when a guy like that can come in and kick your a** at your own game, it shows we all have room to improve. I’m curious what he thinks about us’.”

But history is already created, and it’s Van Gisbergen’s name that will be there next to the winner of NASCAR’s first-ever race on a street course.
