Since Shane van Gisbergen shook things up by acing the Chicago street race last year, NASCAR teams have been on the hunt for drivers who can make a splash like SVG did. And it looks like they’ve hit the jackpot again. Cam Waters, a prominent driver from Ford’s Supercars squad at Tickford Racing, is gearing up to jump into the NASCAR fray next weekend. He’s set to show his skills in the Truck Series at the tight, twisty Martinsville track on April 5, 2024.

The Tickford talent is teaming up with the seasoned pros at ThorSport Racing, a crew that’s won five championships. Waters, no stranger to speedway dust-ups during the Supercars off-season, had his sights set on NASCAR after getting a taste of the Martinsville madness from the stands last year.

And now, Cam Waters’ NASCAR dream is about to hit full throttle as he pilots ThorSport’s #66 Ford Performance F-150 in the Long John Silver 200. With ThorSport Racing holding titles from 2021 and 2023 with Ben Rhodes behind the wheel, Waters is jumping in with both feet, ready for the thrill of the short oval, albeit without the benefit of any warm-up laps.

Cam Waters couldn’t be more pumped, he said, “We’ve been working away at making this happen for some time and to finally be given the chance to race, and with a top operation, is great. I’m not putting too much pressure on myself knowing I will be getting thrown into the deep end without any testing, but hopefully, I can adapt reasonably quickly and be competitive. It’s a short oval so ‘m sure it will be pretty wild out there.”

And guess what? SVG himself will be back in action at Martinsville, hitting the track for the NASCAR Xfinity Series on April 6.
