NASCAR’s COTA race has seen teammates become rivals, and vice versa, with Kaulig Racing’s well-oiled machine representing themselves inexplicably throughout the 46 laps. The duo has been in strong competition for the 1-2 spot. However, on the other end of the top-10 battle, Dale Jr’s ARCA winning duo for JR Motorsports, P15 qualifier Justin Allgaier and P10 Sam Mayer, have been exactly the opposite on the final laps.

The track limits have been hard to manage for more than a dozen drivers, with the likes of Ty Gibbs and John Hunter Nemechek, as well as JRM’s stage 2 “winner,” Brandon Jones, having to restart from the back. Amidst the perilous advances on Turns 2, 3, 4, and 5, Justin Allgaier’s #7 Chevrolet was seen pushing teammate Mayer’s #1 car off-track in the final stages, with many calling out signs of “bullying” from the 2018 Regular Series champion’s end.

According to updates by Dustin Albino, even the #9 crew asked its driver to stop “messing around” with Mayer. He had retorted, saying, “I didn’t do anything.” Jonathan Fjeld then came up with another update where the crew chief, Jim Pohlman, openly called out Allgaier, saying, “Alright man, we don’t need to be Radio Sweetheart. Keep it clean and manage it to the end.”

Karma seemed to get back at Allgaier, as the #1 Mayer emerged as the only JR Motorsports driver to earn a top-10 finish at P9. The rest of the trio all had mid-pack placings, barring Sammy Smith, whose broken axle left him behind the wall and effectively unable to finish the race. Allgaier and Brandon Jones finished P13 and P16, respectively, as Dale Jr’s Xfinity quartet displayed below-average performances.

Additionally, Hendrick Motorsports #17 Kyle Larson won Mr. H his first NXS victory from the pole, as Kiwi superstar Shane van Gisbergen finished 2nd. SVG’s podium finish was revoked by NASCAR due to track limit violations in the final laps. This resulted in Austin Hill racking up a P2, while Chandler Smith rounded it all off with a P3.

With the stakes higher than ever, the NASCAR Xfinity Series will now move to Richmond for the ToyotaCare 250 in a return to the ovals.
