One of the oldest and most popular social media platforms in the world today, X (formerly Twitter) has Elon Musk as its owner and CTO. The platform has been around for quite a while but it’s not without its flaws like the character limit or the lack of an ‘edit tweet’ option among other things. Turns out, like most people, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is not entirely happy with the social media platform, but not for the aforementioned reasons.

The former Cup Series driver spends a lot of his time these days surfing X and sharing his views on certain matters but he believes that the ‘heart’ option for liking posts and comments is confusing and needs a revamp.

It turns out that Junior has given this idea some thought as he literally began the recent episode of the Dale Jr Download podcast with this discussion. However, his solution might not be the way Twitter (or X) owner and billionaire Elon Musk decides to go, but it’s definitely something to work with.

“They Need to Change It” – Dale Earnhardt Jr. urges Twitter (now X) owner Elon Musk

The podcast episode began with Dale Jr. stating how confusing it was for Twitter to only have a heart symbol for liking tweets and comments. Sometimes, when you come across bad news, it might be inappropriate to react with a heart, especially if it’s something personal.

That’s not to say that you don’t acknowledge what’s been put out, but a heart is simply not always the way to react to certain things. For example, if someone close to you is battling a serious illness, You’d want to show your support, but reacting with a heart to a tweet like, “I have been diagnosed with this serious disease,” is just plain inappropriate.

That is exactly the point Junior made on the podcast when he suggested that Twitter should have more options to react than a heart. He also mentioned that since it is more of an information-sharing handle, like and dislike options would do better than the heart.

“In Twitter, it’s like, it’s information highway, right? It’s like an endless runway of just information. Things coming at you, news, news, news…and so like the heart doesn’t work as well there. They need to change it, and move away from that. It needs a thumbs up or thumbs down. Yeah like Pandora and Spotify, like I like this, I do not like this,” Junior said.

Of course, you could just not like a post and comment your views under it, but that’s not Junior’s style.

“I don’t like to put a bunch of damn comments out there…. I’m not one to just be interjecting comments. It’s not my style,” he added.

Junior and Mike Davis also discussed how it was a “disgrace” to hear any piece of negative information on the platform and how Dale Jr. has to be extra careful about what he chooses to like given his popularity and stature in the world of motorsports.

Speaking about how to react to bad news on the Elon Musk-owned platform, Dale Earnhradt Jr. wished that there was a button to express disappointment with a certain piece of news or information.

“I too am disappointed, but I don’t have a disappointed thing I could click. I don’t have a thing to say yeah! I am disappointed too, it’s a heart. You can’t heart that,” he said.

“You’re an animal if you heart that, you’re a disgrace,” Mike Davis chimed in.

The co-host of the Dale Jr. Download podcast also said that there are certain things Dale Jr. has to keep in mind while he is on social media due to his status.

“But you can’t, especially. I got to be honest with you. I know you don’t like to be on a pedestal. But when you heart it then somebody, just to be a jerk….Oh, it’s toxic. I stay away from that. It’s a trap,” he added.

Junior does bring forth a good point. Twitter should probably have more than just one button to react to tweets, otherwise, it does get confusing and sometimes people don’t know what to do. What do you think? Should Twitter introduce new buttons as tweet reactions?
