Talladega was an incredible race for Chase Elliott. After flirting his way into the top-10 all race long, the driver made his way to the very top of the field and edged out the race leader, Ryan Blaney in the final 2 laps. But it took a very bold move from the 2020 Cup Series Champion.

So how did he make it work so incredibly well that he won the race in the very last lap?

Fortunately, the Hendrick Motorsports driver dissected the entire move that took him to the victory lane.

He did say that he didn’t get much help from Erik Jones, but it still helped him compete. ” The #43 was locked onto me and we were kinda doing our own thing, I didn’t have a ton of help from behind. But He just stayed pushing me so aggressively, we were able to stay nose-to-nose of Ryan [Blaney] down the bottom.”

But who really helped him out was Michael McDowell in the #34, “[I] got around the #4, and I saw the #34 come on-hook [to him] from the #12. And I feel like then was an opportunity like I might get clear of him”, “Tried to turn around, and side drafted Ryan and I was able to get completely out in front of him.”, “I was worried we were getting too far out and he was getting too far and he would get in.”, “Fortunately we were far enough ahead to be able to hold him off. Always a good day when it works out.”

Quite a smart move from the Talladega winner. Moreover, this helps him secure the playoff lead over others, with more wins than any other driver in the Cup Series right now.

NASCAR fans compare Chase Elliott to Dale Earnhardt

Fans actually found his move extremely similar to Earnhardt’s. No, not the one who thinks Elliott looks like Elvis Presley. But his father, Dale Earnhardt Sr.

The fan said, “Not gonna lie his finish is very similar to some Dale Earnhardt sh*t, I really feel at the superspeedways and road courses chase really now truly understands how they work like the old time guys like Dale sr and his dad bill, true craft from chase only 26, even if this guy decides to retire at 40 he’s got 14 more years left in the cup series and I’m sure he will be a champion again more than once”

Another fan joined the others in cheering the driver, “Great Job Chase! I remember the first race you had at Blue Ridge Mini speedway! Many years ago.”

One just joked about NASCAR’s questionable security rules, “Bet that move wasn’t in the script with the safety issues. But guess we will see soon enough”

However, this fan actually found a resemblance to Jeff Gordon’s move! “Chase made a Jeff Gordon move to the outside to win. I say Jeff Gordon cause of the 2007 race Gordon made the same move just on the last lap”

Some others just made fun of the haters, “I can already see the wave of “Mickey Mouse” spammers coming”

But this one fan believes young Elliott is a better version of his father. Just in a much harsher way, “Unlike his dad Chase is a great person and not whiny like his dad….”
