Team Ford had one of the greatest cars this season with the inauguration of their new Mustang Dark Horse. But unfortunately, they could not convert their efforts into success, even after nine races. Primarily because the Chevys and the Toyotas were exceptional and did not leave an inch. However, the table seems to have turned with the Talladega qualifiers as the front row, including the pole-sitter, were Ford drivers. Michael McDowell acquired the pole, with Austin Cindric and Todd Gilliland following him.
After a great qualifying season, Team Penske star Austin Cindric took the fans by surprise by posting a picture of his bleeding nose. What happened to the 25-year-old?

Post-qualifying race at the Dega, Austin Cindric took to his Instagram account and shared a picture with his fellow Ford drivers, Harrison Burton and Todd Gilliland. The picture shows the Team Penske driver bleeding from his nose. This injury, he mentioned, was due to his amateurish play of golf. Expressing his desire to acquire chipping skills, Cindric captioned the post, “Today’s highlights: qualifying on the front row and keeping all my teeth. Golf ain’t fore everyone. Need to work on my chipping…”
At the qualifying race at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, Austin Cindric had a strong start with a qualifying time of 24.500. Cindric, driving past Chase Elliott, delivered an impressive performance, finishing first in stage 1 by a few inches. During the course of the race, chaos ensued, resulting in a massive crash between Michael McDowell and Brad Keselowski. While Austin Cindric drove out safely, a different incident got him injured.

The Talladega track has been looked up to by Ford drivers as a winning opportunity this season. The track positions at the Dega hold significance due to their unique characteristics and the style of racing they promote. Owing to their high-speed drafting, cars run tightly together to reduce air resistance and increase speed. The track’s design often leads to large packs of cars racing close together, which can result in multi-car accidents known as ‘The Big One’.

This track is also known for its pit-road advantage. The Talladega pit road extends over a length of 1730 feet with 44 stalls. Favorable track positions, such as these, can lead to a more strategic pit stop, thereby saving valuable seconds that can affect the race results. The Talladega Superspeedway also employs the use of restrictor plates that limit the engine power. This thus ensures that the drivers’ skill and track position are important deciding factors for a good race!
