Earlier this year, NASCAR brought forth a new rules package for the Next Gen cars. As it happened, this package was supposed to cater to short tracks, like Martinsville. According to reports, the cars would run with less rear downforce, owing to the removal of the cars’ inner strakes. Those strakes are supposed to be part of the rear diffuser, so the drivers would have to race with the tweaked diffuser. Of course, the changes will not be visible to the naked eye, but the only visible difference is that the spoilers will be a lot shorter. Naturally, the drivers will have to adjust their driving style to accommodate the changes, including the likes of Kyle Busch.

Busch told the Roanoke Times, “Obviously the shorter spoilers and the [loss] of strakes have created less downforce for the car. Unfortunately, that has been a detriment to our team right now and kind of what we are struggling with to where we are loose at many of these tracks that we are going to where we run with the lower downforce. We are still trying to work through that stuff and get our stuff better. We have to fine turn where and what that is exactly to make sure that we come there and have that competitive effort. It’s a work in progress for us trying to work through all those things.”

Kyle Busch has been enjoying the new lease of life with his new team

The 37-year-old is a pretty talented driver and has been in excellent form. Even moving to a new team, in the form of Richard Childress Racing, has not been enough to slow him down. In fact, it took just his third race to reach Victory Lane and cement his position in the Playoffs.

Of course, the season is still long and anything can happen in the next few races. On the other hand, Busch has been pretty competitive this year, even winning a Truck Series race earlier this season. Unfortunately, Kyle Busch is of the opinion that his team will likely struggle on the short track.
