In its long history, NASCAR has paid a visit to many race venues. Sadly, there are a large number of tracks that no longer play host to Cup races. One of them is the Myrtle Beach Speedway in South Carolina. This track is steeped in history, as many current and former NASCAR stars raced over there.

This includes the likes of Jeff Gordon, Lee, Richard, Kyle, and Adam Petty, Ralph, Dale Sr., Dale Jr., and Kelley Earnhardt. Unfortunately, there is practically nothing left of the track. Suffice to say, it is truly quite sad to see the plight of the track. In light of that, Kevin Harvick’s crew chief Rodney Childers lamented about the state of the track. He said, “That’s enough to piss me off.. That was probably the best track I ever raced on..

It was sad for NASCAR to say goodbye to the track

Track owner Bob Lutz said, “(Closing the track) isn’t an easy decision to do that. But the problem is it’s getting harder and harder for short tracks to survive. The reason why is because we’re just not getting the attendance that they used to years ago. It makes it hard, because you struggle and do everything you can. I think me and my team have shown that we have put 100 percent effort into building the speedway and making it successful and making it a great place for people to race at, and even though we’ve put in all the effort it still continues to lose money.”

Prior to its demolition, a land developer bought the struggling track. Now, plans say that a commercial and housing development idea will replace the defunct track. By December 2021, most of the track including the wall, and pit road had disappeared. On December 31st, the only evidence of the track’s existence was the frontstretch and backstretch walls; the walls showed the name of the former racetrack.
