Chase Elliott had a stellar performance last weekend. He finally got a win at his home track, and a dominating one, adding 3 wins to his name this season. However, Rick Hendrick had his eyes set on a Non-Hendrick Motorsports driver to take the win at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

So who is this mystery driver Mr. H wished to win the race?

Rick Hendrick revealed he wanted one of his friendly team’s drivers to win, a team that Hendrick Motorsports supports. Mr. H wanted the Spire Motorsports driver, Corey LaJoie, to take the win if a Hendrick driver couldn’t.

“I was proud and excited and if we couldn’t win, I wanted (LaJoie) to win.”

He complimented LaJoie’s driving style and expressed how he wanted the Spire Motorsports driver to win if Chase Didn’t.

Hendrick said, “He’s a great guy. That was a Cinderella story, and if we couldn’t win, I wanted him to win. He looked as good as anyone in this field today.”

But why did Mr. H want a driver from Spire Motorsports to win? Well, the two teams are connected.

Spire Motorsports has an alliance with Hendrick Motorsports, which is somewhat like 23XI Racing’s partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing.

Hendrick provides Engines and Technical support for Spire Motorsports’ Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

It’s amazing how teams support other teams to reach the peak of NASCAR. Moreover, even Spire Motorsports help Hendrick as Hendrick Motorsports drivers often drive Spire trucks when they wanna compete in the truck series.
