A decade ago, the driver whom the NASCAR community now knows for the 2019 Craftsman Truck Series Love’s RV Stop 250 title had no professional racing experience. Keeping the racing affair aside, he was a security guard at the NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600. So, how did he end up winning the race?

Well, much as that fact is important, the thing that can’t be ignored at the moment is that in just 10 years, Spencer Boyd rose from being a safe keeper to owning a Craftsman Truck Series team, which will be kicking off in the 2024 season. That’s right! But how?

When Boyd worked as a security guard, he carved his place in NASCAR as he planted the seed with a side gig, wherein he used to sell cars at Hendrick Chrysler Dodge. This is a perfect opportunity to lay down the required network for nurturing high-octane aspirations.

From there, the 28-year-old driver’s NASCAR journey accelerated, and he had his first shot in 2016 at the Truck Series, driving for MB Motorsports. The very same year, Boyd paved the way for his Xfinity Series stint with Rick Ware Racing.

Boyd spent the past five years driving for Young’s Motorsports, wherein, in 2019, the 28-year-old clinched his first Truck Series win at the Talladega Superspeedway. With all the experience and contacts Boyd made during his career, not to forget Freedom Warranty owner Chris Miller, he has set up his own Truck Series team, which goes by the name of Freedom Racing Enterprises. Miller is a partner in the team. Taking note of the historic moment, motorsports reporter Jordan Bianchi wasted no time and shared some bits of the newly formed team on X.

Boyd bought a few of GMS Racing’s trucks. The #43 owner points might come in handy as their 2024 season will kick off at the Daytona International Speedway on February 16. Currently, only Boyd will serve as a driver, with crew chief Greg Ely handling the race management of the #76 Chevrolet Silverado Truck.

Although Boyd is well-versed in how racing goes in the NASCAR scene, what he doesn’t know yet is the feeling of ownership that one gets after making a long-overdue purchase. Also, he didn’t forget to thank the people without whom his dream would’ve remained unfulfilled.

“If you asked a wide-eyed 20-year-old me at Martinsville Speedway if I was going to start my own NASCAR team in the next decade, I might have laughed it off.” These were Spencer Boyd’s words when he unfurled his thoughts about the far-fetched idea of owning a NASCAR team when he just crossed the teenage.

However, as the years went by, Boyd’s knack for motorsports became boundless, leading to his 2016 debut, and he has now ushered in a brand new Truck Series team.

Boyd expressed his heartfelt gratitude to those few people who played a key role in his growth and said, “I have been blessed to be able to race cars for a living and remain part of the NASCAR family for as long as I have. I wouldn’t be here without a small group of very important people in my career, so I definitely want to thank them for believing in me through thick and thin.”
