Kraft recalled a day when he was in Charlotte last year to test the cars and he did not like the sound of the new cars. Comparing them to the old cars on the field, he felt that the new ones were unbelievably loud. Though the old ones would scream as well, there is something bothersome about the pitch of the new cars that he found stupid.

Kraft wondered what would happen when they got them to Martinsville and Bristol tracks. He said, “The dirt race is kind of its own animal, they were kind of off throttle most of the time. But when we got to the concrete race at Bristol, it was ridiculous.

NASCAR spotter Freddie Kraft on mufflers

Giving his unfiltered opinion on mufflers, he said that but for the limelight it got on social media, the fans wouldn’t even notice the changes and the mufflers. He said, “I seen instantly Bob tweets out, ‘Oh they’re going to test mufflers.’ And social media, NASCAR Reddit, and NASCAR Twitter goes absolutely insane. Oh my God! You know you can’t put mufflers on these things, It’s ridic! What a terrible idea.

“And I guarantee you, if they had never made that announcement and just went out there and put the mufflers on and tested, ninety percent of the people that follow NASCAR and watch these races would have had no idea that they even had mufflers on there.”
