Perhaps the appeals board opened a can of worms after they ruled against the penalty appeal of Denny Hamlin. Because not only did Hamlin immediately resort to his podcast show, the very thing that got him into all this trouble in the first place, to call out the inconsistencies from the appeals board in the last week or so. But he also termed Hendrick Motorsports as cheaters after their penalty appeal was modified despite them being in violation of NASCAR’s rule book.

This precisely was what had the #11 driver wondering about the consistency in judgment.

Denny Hamlin claims Hendrick Motorsports “cheated”

Speaking in the recent ‘Emergency’ episode of his podcast show, Actions Detrimental, Denny Hamlin claimed that his penalty ruling cemented what he had suggested in a recent tweet of his – “I don’t know anymore. I don’t know.”

“Two different panelists found the same infractions, we’re assuming same infractions, with a different result. The panel for Hendrick acknowledged that they did something they shouldn’t have altered the racecar for a performance advantaged, essentially, let me call it, they cheated,” he described.

“But yet, I rubbed Ross against the fence and deserved a 25-point penalty. They had four cars that were illegal.”

Hamlin added that his qualms aren’t with the process because he thinks that is fair. “I just don’t understand where we’re getting these various outcomes,” he wondered.

“When the panel is consistently calling out NASCAR for them crossing words that say, ‘You’re contradicting yourself,’ I don’t get it,” Hamlin claimed.

He added that NASCAR themselves were claiming it was “probably a subjective call,” that it wasn’t “egregious,” which led him to ask, “Then why are we in the room?”

“You want me to self-police? Tell me how to do it then,” Hamlin added.
