This is no secret that in the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, Sam Mayer and Ty Gibbs have developed a bit of a rivalry. Earlier this year, the two of them clashed and had an altercation at Martinsville. Recently, Mayer spoke to Daniel McFadin in his Dropping the Hammer podcast about his rivalry with Gibbs.

He said, “That part of us is definitely wide open for sure. It’s definitely very interesting because we’ve had such a long history. We’ve grown up essentially together, doing the exact same type of racing. From go-karts to late models to ARCA to Xfinity now.”

At that moment, Gibbs went from the rising rookie star to public enemy number 1. Last year, Ty Gibbs showcased impressive performances and got a couple of wins under his belt. However, that novelty might have since faded because of his ongoing scraps with Sam Mayer.

Fortunately for Mayer, he is still in the championship hunt. At the moment, he sits in sixth place in the Xfinity Series championship, following a string of Top 5 finishes.

Admittedly, a maiden Xfinity Series win continues to elude him, but there is time for him to change that. The question is, will it be at the Road America circuit, especially since it is his home track, thus making the win more poetic?
