Defending Snowball Derby winner Ty Majeski has faced a major blow. The 30-year-old racing driver is aiming to become the second three-time winner of the race, but it seems like Five Flags Speedway is making the achievement difficult for him. In a practice session marred by rain and bits of the track falling to pieces, a chunk of asphalt came off and damaged his car. With qualifying on the horizon, will this setback hurt his chances of reclaiming his title?

Majeski will now face a race against time to get his car fixed ahead of the Snowball Derby. With the help of his crew, will the racing driver manage to get his car back in contention before the iconic short-track racing event?

Will Ty Majeski be able to defend his Snowball Derby trophy?

The Snowball Derby has been one of the most iconic short-track events since its inception in 1968. The Late Model Race features plenty of veterans in the motorsports world, as well as current stars and aspiring professionals, all going head-to-head on the half-mile paved oval. The likes of Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott have already won the event twice before, while Ty Majeski is in a unique position to become only the second driver in history to win the Snowball Derby thrice. The only other driver to have achieved that historic feat is short-track legend Rich Bickle, who has won the race a record five times!

With the stakes higher than ever, the last thing Ty Majeski needed was a setback ahead of the event. However, that’s exactly what happened according to a tweet posted by journalist Matt Weaver. The Sportsnaut writer wrote, “During the last practice session, a piece of the track came up in Turn 3 and damaged the nose and ductwork on the Ty Majeski car. They’ve been fixing it this whole time. Chad Bryant, who is working with the Lapcevich Bros, has come over to help his friend.”

Caden Lapcevich will be the crew chief of his brother Treyten this weekend and he replied to a comment praising Chad Bryant’s generosity, saying, “Between us and Ty today, he’s been a busy man! But we appreciate everything he does for us.

Having opened in 1953, Five Flags Speedway turned 71 years old this year and its track condition gives an accurate indication of its age. The short track features cracks and plenty of character, which can prove to be detrimental for cars running at high speeds on its surface. It’s a lesson Ty Majeski was forced to learn the hard way, as his crew will now be forced to put the car back together because of damage that was incurred because of the track’s condition. However, the 30-year-old seems to have plenty of help to get his car up and running again.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Ty Majeski overcome the odds and secure a historic third Snowball Derby win despite setbacks?

Have an interesting take?

With the racing community united, drivers and crew members from other teams also came out to help the reigning Snowball Derby champion. Given the level of assistance Ty Majeski is receiving at Five Flags Speedway, it will be very surprising if he doesn’t manage to compete at the Snowball Derby. However, it will all depend on the level of damage his car has incurred, although early indications only point towards nose and ductwork repairs being conducted. Having won the Truck Series title in 2024, could the 30-year-old end his year on a high with a third Snowball Derby win? Time will tell.

Majeski isn’t underestimating the competition

Ty Majeski is having quite a year, isn’t he? After his first Truck Series triumph, the 30-year-old racing driver secured a win at the Bill Bigley Memorial at Freedom Factory. With the Snowball Derby on the horizon, the Wisconsin native is determined to succeed in Pensacola, Florida, and cement his reputation as one of the best short-track racers in the country.

However, winning at Five Flags Speedway won’t be easy, given the competition as well as the state of the short track. Speaking to Rob Blount of FloRacing ahead of the event, Majeski candidly said, “I think this is year 11. So yeah, we’ve had a lot of ups and downs here. No matter if you’re the reigning champion or not, you know, you come down here with a clean slate and it’s so hard to come down here and be competitive year in and year out.”

Given the competition, which includes the likes of Noah Gragson, Chandler Smith, and Derek Thorn, it’s not surprising that Ty Majeski isn’t taking his victory for granted. The ThorSport Racing driver went on to say, “You can never be fast enough to win this race”, highlighting just how challenging it would be to secure a third win at Five Flags Speedway. The Wisconsin native will need to squeeze every drop of performance from his car if he hopes to secure another victory and will be praying that the repairs hold up for the entirety of the 300-lap event.
