Justin Haley is undoubtedly making waves in the NASCAR world. With his fifth season at Kaulig Racing underway, the spotlight has been firmly fixed on his career trajectory, especially after the announcement of his move to Rick Ware Racing for 2024. One of the standout moments in his journey was at the 2023 Chicago street race. Haley’s performance was nothing short of sensational. Starting from the rear of the grid, he stormed through the tight street course to secure an impressive P2 finish. This isn’t the first time he’s turned heads. In 2019, he etched his name in NASCAR history by clinching his first victory at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona, making an emphatic entry into the sport’s elite ranks.

Haley’s ascent in NASCAR hasn’t been without its trials, including his foray into the junior ranks. Recently, he joined Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mike Davis on the ‘Dale Jr. Download’ podcast, offering a look into his journey and the influential figures who’ve shaped it.

Braun Motorsports, owned by Todd Braun and boasting Justin Haley as one of its star drivers, has carved out a significant presence in the world of NASCAR. With a portfolio spanning Cup, Xfinity, Truck, and ARCA racing, Braun Motorsports has amassed a remarkable 561 starts in the world of stock car racing. The team’s zenith came during its tenure as one of the top independent Xfinity Series teams from 2003 to 2010. It saw the likes of Haley and Justin Marks, who has since become the owner of the Cup Series outfit Trackhouse Racing, behind the wheel of the Toyota.

During the podcast, Haley delved into his early days in NASCAR and the pivotal role played by individuals like Todd Braun. The story traces back to Haley’s teenage years when he was a 15-year-old racer competing in the CRA Pro Late Model Championship. The journey was filled with hardships, but a life-changing opportunity emerged when Todd Braun offered Haley a choice: continue in late models or embark on a six-race stint in the ARCA series. Without hesitation, Haley chose the latter, making his ARCA debut in 2014 at Toledo, piloting the No. 55 Toyota for Braun Auto Group.

Success was swift for the young talent. In only his second-ever ARCA race at Elko, Haley secured the pole position and etched his name as the youngest driver in series history to achieve this feat, setting a track record in the qualifying rounds. This early accomplishment served as a harbinger of Haley’s promising career, as he further underlined his uncle Todd’s instrumental role in his career, Uncle Todd built a little ARCA team for me, made me some truck starts for Braun Motorsports, so I was kinda around doing ARCA.”

When Junior questioned, “Where were these trucks and stuff kept?” Haley revealed, They were kept in China Grove. We had our own shop, had some ARCA cars we went and ran, did some trucks stuff, kind of like trucks back from their team.”

As Haley recounted his early NASCAR days, he also highlighted the present-day challenges, discussing his current deal with Rick Ware Racing and the formidable obstacles smaller teams have to overcome to remain competitive in NASCAR.

As Haley put it, “If you can’t get with a key partner team which, frankly, I don’t think I could have… It’s hard. They’re all kind of the same. Whoever you have working on them is the difference. All the parts and pieces are the same. It’s just who do you have to work on it.”
