The Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona is currently underway and there are many top drivers competing. This also includes NASCAR royalty like Jimmie Johnson, as well as other NASCAR stars. However, there were a few hiccups during the course of the race. As the field rejoined the main speedway, there were a couple of crashes.

The primary culprit was the sun itself, which nearly blinded a few drivers. Evidently, it got a bit too much for a couple of drivers because they lost control and spun. The victims were one of the Mercedes AMG GT3 cars and an Aston Martin GT3 car. There was also a hairy moment when another driver clipped the helpless Aston Martin and damaged it.

The incident occurred just as the drivers exited the infield area at Turns 6 and 7. This is also the area that leads to the first two turns of the main Daytona International Speedway that the NASCAR drivers use. It is also worth mentioning that Swiss driver Rolf Ineichen had a close shave in avoiding the wreck, though his Lamborghini did clip the Aston Martin.

What happened during this incident at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona?

According to some observations, the #75 Mercedes happened to hook to the right. Additionally, the #23 Aston Martin also slammed into the outside wall and had a worse wreck. Obviously, it was race over for the Mercedes and the Aston Martin. Meanwhile, the Lamborghini was likely able to limp back to the pits for repairs.

While all this was going on, at the halfway stage Cadillac were sitting on top. The #5 of JDC Miller Motorsports and the #48 of Action Express Racing were leading at around 1:40 AM. This was after the outfit had a few on-track shenanigans. However, reports suggest that they have gotten on top of them and have recovered.
