At the NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega, Bubba Wallace took a Stage 2 win. With two laps to go, he led from Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski. However, the real action unfolded behind him and it involved championship leaders, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. Hamlin got taken out, as did Truex Jr, and three of the Hendrick Motorsports cars were also involved.

The three Hendrick victims were Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman and William Byron. During the impact, Truex Jr acquainted himself with the wall, while Hamlin came away with some right front damage. Meanwhile, the Hendrick trio just spun and managed to stay away from the walls.

What happened behind Bubba Wallace during the race?

Apparently, Keselowski triggered the incident when he jinked to the outside and cut off Hamlin. That forced the #11 Joe Gibbs Racing car to back off slightly and an unsuspecting Truex Jr tagged him. After Hamlin hit the wall, Martin Truex Jr got sent into the wall himself, by William Byron.

For his part, Byron swerved and collided with Bowman, who bumped into Elliott. Luckily, there was no major trouble, and only those five cars were involved. In the end, Bubba Wallace took the chequered flag under caution, but it still counted as his first stage win.

Although it is not exactly a real race win, it is a step in the right direction. Admittedly, 23XI Racing team owners, Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan will be happy with the positive steps. Now the next step would actually be gunning for the real race win in the near future.

In the end, Wallace finished the race in 19th place, which was fairly decent by his standards. He acknowledged on Twitter that it was a decent day in the office at Talladega and he is looking forward to racing in Kansas.
