The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Sunday was nothing short of entertainment. Bubba Wallace and Austin Dillon were at each other, fighting for the top spot. The NASCAR preseason clash saw Bubba start the race well, but the end wasn’t how he thought it would be.

Dillon and Wallace look well-positioned to have a go at the checkered flag with less than 10 laps left. It was then that the former ran into the latter’s left rear, spinning the car out and taking away any decent chance left. Obviously, this did not bode well with Wallace and he made sure to let everyone know how he felt.

Bubba Wallace was left furious with the incident

Speaking about his duel with Dillon, Bubba Wallace said, “The 3 just never tried to make the corner. He [Dillon] was always running into my left rear. It is what it is. I got to run into the fence by him on the straightaway on a restart, so I gave him a shot. And then we get dumped, so… it sucks.”

When Wallace was spun by Dillon during the race, the radio chatter caught Wallace with a sarcastic remark: “Run me in the fence, appreciate it.” The duel ended on a positive note for Dillon as he finished second in the race.

After the race, the Richard Childress Racing driver said, “You’ve got to have a short memory about it. Obviously, Bubba knocked me through the corner. I was going to hit him back. Didn’t mean to turn him like that, but when it gets down to the end, I think everyone knows what’s going on.” He went on to add, “I hate it for Bubba. He had a good car and a good run. But you can’t tell who’s either pushing him or getting pushed.”

More of Wallace at the Clash

The Busch Light Clash saw Martin Truex Jr. finish first, followed by Austin Dillon and Kyle Busch. Bubba Wallace finished 22 in the race and was one he would like to forget. The exhibition race only brought bad news to Bubba Wallace. Before the incident with Dillon, he was involved in bumping into his own boss, Denny Hamlin.

This happened before the halfway break as Wallace and while it wasn’t a deliberate act, it was surely not worth remembering. Hamlin was pissed with Wallace, but he accepted that the next-generation cars get easily affected by bumper tagging. Interestingly, Ross Chastain also ended up bumping Hamlin during the race. Given their feud in the past, it could have turned out to be a heated affair. But understanding the setup of the race, Hamlin let it go as any mature sportsman would.

After being pushed out of the way during the Clash, Bubba Wallace ended up sulking in his car for a bit. This might just be the start of a new rivalry between Wallace and Dillon. Given the former’s history, this could just be the motivation he needed before the season kick starts. All in all, it was chaotic at the Coliseum, setting up perfectly for the season opener at Daytona 500. Having finished up the runner-up last year, Bubba Wallace will be hoping to go all the way this time around.
