During the NASCAR Xfinity race at Talladega, Chase Briscoe had a close shave in the final stages of the race. Apparently, Noah Gragson tried to draft him but ended up tagging him.

However, Briscoe’s quick reflexes managed to avoid a ‘Big One’. Unfortunately, he lost a chunk of momentum and dropped well down the order and had to pull a recovery drive.

In the end, Justin Haley triumphed and kept up his speedway win track record. Meanwhile, poor old Chase Briscoe could only finish 19th place, but the good news was that it did not dent his playoff hopes.

How did Chase Briscoe perform in the race?

Briscoe and fellow Ford driver, Austin Cindric were the sole hopes among the gaggle of Chevrolets and Toyotas. The duo put in strong performances to dominate the first two stages at the Talladega Superspeedway.

Unfortunately, neither of them could sustain their pace by the time the third and final stage began. That bump from Gragson was not the first time Chase Briscoe received a hit that night. Meanwhile, Cindric wound up even further down the order in a disappointing 34th.

At least Briscoe can take comfort in the fact that he is already through to the Round of 8. He achieved it after winning last weekend’s playoff opener at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Now, he is focusing on helping Cindric through as well.

The duo stuck to the game plan during the first two stages, but it went awry when Cindric slid out of control at Turn 4. Then he endured a botched pit-stop approach and ended his day. The good news is that his stage points helped him stay in second place in the playoff standings.

With no Cindric to back him up, Chase Briscoe was quite vulnerable to the Chevrolet-Toyota assault. To make matters worse for Briscoe, he was the pole-sitter and led 73 laps, but it was all for naught.
