This weekend, NASCAR heads to the Texas Motor Speedway for the second time this year. The last time the Cup drivers were on Texan soil, they were racing at the 2020 O’Reilly Auto Parts 500. Since that race took place on March 29th, close to the summer season, everyone had to battle soaring temperatures. However, Clint Bowyer decided to take things to another level.

The #14 Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) driver did not appear to have a cooling device nearby. So he improvised and decided to use a leaf blower instead. Suffice to say, some had a field day poking fun at Bowyer for using a leaf blower. On the other side of the argument, it was an extremely sweltering day at the track.

Bowyer found himself in that position after sustaining damage to his front grille. It got so bad that the team even had to cut it off, but when the race resumed, he managed to nurse it to 11th place.

Speaking about the incident, he said, “I think you guys saw the leaf blower in my car, like, ‘Damn! is he overheating?’ TO be honest with you, he was blowing it in the grille. That thing was like 320 yesterday. If your automobile ever overheats, your gauge would never reach 320.”

He joked that it felt like a nuclear meltdown and the team had to cut the grill and run the leaf blower in the duct. As it turned out, when he smashed the car, it ruined the duct work and compromised it’s ability to get air in the radiator.

Later on, when one of the crew members stuck a leaf blower through the car window, Bowyer was puzzled. However, he was not going to look a gift horse in the mouth and was quite grateful for the assistance.

Hopefully on this occasion, the drivers won’t have to face such extreme conditions this weekend. Bowyer really will not be looking forward to experiencing that once again.
