Back in July 2017, Kyle Busch was going through a drought in the buildup to the coming race in Indianapolis. He had a golden opportunity handed to him when he qualified on pole position, while Martin Truex Jr started 6th. In the first stage, Busch won ahead of Truex Jr and Ryan Blaney. All this was in spite of a Corey LaJoie wreck and a lightning interruption.

Busch won stage two as well, braving a few interruptions, with the top 3 maintaining the status quo. However, the real drama began during Stage 3, involving Truex Jr and Kyle Busch.

The drama began when Ricky Stenhouse Jr and Jimmie Johnson collided on lap 106. Sadly for Stenhouse Jr, he was worse off and ended his race after hitting the inside wall. When the race restarted a few laps later, Truex got a little wayward and lost control.

Unfortunately, Kyle Busch had stuck his nose around the outside and had nowhere to go. He spun into the wall, and Truex didn’t get away as easily either. Suffice to say, it was race over for both drivers, and Busch’s winless streak continued. It was even more heartbreaking because he was gunning for a third consecutive victory at the Brickyard 400.

Needless to say, the #18 team did not appreciate the contact and nearly got into a stand-off with the #78 crew. Words were exchanged between the two teams, and the scene was not at all pretty. One of Truex Jr’s team members yelled, “I don’t care who you are, get out of my box. I don’t give a f*** who you are, get out of my box!”

Meanwhile, one of Busch’s crew members simply replied, “Alright pal, alright cowboy, tough guy.”

Fortunately, both sides were separated before the situation escalated and fists flew. In the end, Kasey Kahne won from Brad Keselowski and Ryan Newman.
