WATCH: Daniel Ricciardo Gets his First Taste of a NASCAR Car

Earlier, Daniel Ricciardo fulfilled a childhood dream of driving one of Dale Earnhardt’s cars. However, it is interesting to note that this is not the first time he has stepped in a NASCAR machine. Apparently, he took part in a Red Bull event in Cardiff, and one of the cars was a NASCAR car.

On that occasion in 2011, he hopped into the #83 Toyota of Scott Speed and took it for a spin. When it was time for him to set off, he got a vigorous start with plenty of wheel spin. From there, he performed a couple of donuts before hopping on top of the car and waving to the fans.

Speaking afterwards, he said, “It’s cool you know, having it on the street. There’s always a bit of an atmosphere amongst the buildings. It seems to echo off the walls a bit better. So for the noise its pretty good. The circuit’s bumpy and for me, it’s got a bit more character. I think there is no better way to have it in these circumstances for the young kids to really experience it here like a mini-Monaco.”

Speaking about the car, the Australian revealed that he had a couple of laps in the car. From there, he came over and performed a few donuts. Ricciardo confessed that he was worried about not producing enough smoke because it had rained at Cardiff a while ago.

Coming to his F1 career, Daniel Ricciardo assured that the HRT team has been helping him develop. As per his testimony, the driver is giving a lot more input into the car setup. Since he is now able to understand the car better, he can only continue to improve himself. The bad news is that he was far away from achieving his limit. Since then, the Australian has only gone from strength to strength and currently races for McLaren.
