NASCAR is a sport known for its history of rivalries between drivers and several dominating drivers. Along with the rivalries and speed comes the hate from the fans. We will take a trip down memory lane and look at an incident between the 2 of the most well-known and hated names in their time, Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon.

Jeff Gordon became the most hated man in NASCAR not because he did anything wrong to Dale Earnhardt or any of the greats, but because he was the same type of driver, just younger and faster.

The time when Dale Earnhardt destroyed one of Jeff Gordon’s fastest cars

Jeff Gordon is a driver we all know to have been very fast throughout his career. With 4 Cup Championships under his belt, he was already a scary young driver for the rest of the grid. However, there was another very fast driver there to challenge Gordon. Of course, the 7 Time Cup Series Champion, Dale Earnhardt, also known as “The Intimidator”.

Earnhardt seems to have intimidated Jeff Gordon and the rest of Hendrick Motorsports as he recalls “One of the most frustrating times I had with Dale”. This one time during practice in Michigan, when Gordon’s car owner, Ray Evernham strictly instructed him to “Stay away from Dale”.

Although, Jeff stayed away from Dale, he saw the #3 slow down and he believed that was the sheer pace of their amazing car. However, when Jeff Gordon caught up with Earnhardt, the 2 started drag racing. In hopes of clearing #3 at the corner because of all the pace he had.

On the other hand, The Intimidator had other plans when he dove in for the corner and passed Gordon. And, simultaneously, created a Vacuum effect with the aerodynamics and sucked #24 DuPont Chevrolet, destroying one of Jeff Gordon’s fastest cars. In fact, he even said, “Moments like that at the track were ones that just p*ss me off”.
