Days of Thunder is one of the best-known NASCAR-themed Hollywood movies. Apparently, Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer drew a lot of inspiration from that movie.

This is because the two of them borrowed a rental car each and attempted to race each other around the Daytona road course.

The scene started off with Gordon berating his former adversary for making them late. Then, Bowyer proposed a race where they did one lap around the track before heading to the booth.

Obviously, there was plenty of trash talk between the two as the race began. While all this was going on, fellow commentator Mike Joy was getting rather impatient and annoyed that the two were unavailable.

Unbeknownst to him, the two former drivers were tearing up the track, a race before the race. Out on the track, Clint Bowyer was having the time of his life, while Gordon was vowing that he would not let him win.

Then the dirty tricks began, as the two drivers desperately tried to gain the advantage. It started with Bowyer tagging Jeff Gordon into a half-spin. Luckily, the former Hendrick Motorsports driver was able to recover and resume the chase and plot his revenge.

At this point, Gordon and Bowyer truly embraced the phrase, ‘Rubbing is racing’. This is because they bumped each other, breaking a few mirrors.

Around another loop, Jeff Gordon tagged Bowyer into a spin at the exact place that he got spun off. By then, Joy and pit reporter Chris Myers had found out about their antics and could only shake their heads in disbelief.

Finally, the two of them dragged some heavily battered cars to the parking lot, before engaging in a mad dash. At last, Bowyer and Gordon made it back to the booth in one piece, though the race went unresolved.
