“First day at the shop, first day at school”, is what Kurt Busch said as he entered his new office at 23XI Racing. Busch will drive for the Hamlin-Jordan owned team alongside Bubba Wallace next season.

And on his first day of work, he shared his thoughts on his new team in a video he posted on Twitter.

“It’s really neat walking in the front door. This is my new home.”

Busch came in for the seat fitting in the Next Gen car. Seat fitting is one of the primary and crucial elements ahead of a new season for race car drivers. A member of the 23XI team said, “This process of getting the seat set on Day 1 is one of the most important parts. It’s the comfort that you have to put at ease and know that everything is in the right spot.”

“And that way you can focus on the car.”

He explained, with seat fitting, “things gotta be just right.”

“You have to implement all the safety things that you learn in the safety meetings and still..and yet it’s your comfort box,” he added.

Busch said, “It’s all about teamwork, that’s what this car is teaching me. This has been an amazing journey for me, and this is like that feel of home and that final spot.”

23XI finally found a charter for Kurt Busch

After going through a few deals that fell through, 23XI finally bought the outgoing Starcom Racing’s charter in November. Unlike the first charter that cost owner Denny Hamlin $4 million, this second one came at a price of $13.5 million.

“I got a piece of paper that I got to sign. That’s essentially what I got for $13.5 million.”

He admitted the price is far from ideal, but it’s a necessary bet that they have to make for the long run. “If we plan on being in this sport for a long time, then we’re all placing a bet. Hopefully, our chips don’t get taken off the table,” Hamlin said.

With the 2022 season finally taking shape, Hamlin and Co. are certainly in a better position than ever before.
