In the truck race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, ThorSport Racing driver Christian Eckes’ race turned around completely within seconds. Quite literally. This is because Eckes, who was leading the race, got turned around by his former boss, Kyle Busch with ten to go.

Eckes, who initially gave Busch the bottom line, was quite confident in his duel with Busch. But an attempt to cut down from the top to the middle lane to block his former boss’ advances meant his 98 caught 51’s front.

This contact was enough for Eckes to spin out and hit the inside wall, as Kyle Busch drove on without much damage to his truck.

After the race, Christian Eckes maintained a slightly neutral stance about who was to blame for his wreck. He described how he thought he was clear and Busch “wrecked” him, but at the same time, he empathized with his former boss, too.

“I felt like I was clear there, I got called clear. I went down to block, and he held his line and wrecked us. But it is what it is. I would have done the same thing if I was him,” he said.

Busch, who heads into this week’s Cup Series race with more top-five finishes (9) than any other current driver, hopes to have an honorary road or a stand named after his name.

“One of these days, hopefully, there might be a road out there named after us, or a grandstand or something of that nature. (But maybe) don’t get too far ahead of yourselves, because that just means I’m getting closer to retirement if they start doing that.”
