At the Bristol Motor Speedway, Bubba Wallace had a weekend to forget. When the race concluded, he could only muster a paltry 28th place. This was largely because he faced a number of issues with an overheating car. Later on, some unaired onboard footage from his 23XI Racing shed some light on what really happened.

After the race, Wallace and his crew sat down to discuss what went wrong for them. The cameras caught snippets of the conversation, revealing that a crew member forgot to engage the water for the cooling system. As a result, poor Wallace was stuck battling soaring temperatures. In all honesty, it was a rookie error and it probably exposed how inexperienced the 23XI Racing pit crew was.

According to the conversation, “The pressure is so high in the system, that it puts resistance against the cool down. So you have to have it plugged in long enough to relieve the pressure for the cooldown to start circulating. So that’s why we’re sitting there, I told them. I saw you blowing water over here.”

It was absolutely gutting for the driver because he clearly struggled on the track. The overheating car did not make things any better, and he was finally put out of his misery. Meanwhile, teammate Kurt Busch also had a torrid day in the office as he also retired from the race.

In the coming weekend, the paddock heads to the Talladega Superspeedway. Last year, it was a happy hunting ground for Bubba Wallace, as he won the race over there. Admittedly, some still believe that he got lucky because the race was red-flagged and the results declared early.

Naturally, the African-American driver will head into this race with a point to prove. He will want to triumph in this race properly, without any force majeure interruptions. Only then will he be able to stick it to all of his critics, with a ‘legitimate race win’.
