Whenever a driver wins a championship, it is assumed that he or she is the one to beat. In fact, they are almost expected to continue winning races in the following year, to defend their crown. Unfortunately, 2019 Cup Series champion Kyle Busch is close to bucking that trend.

Recently, Kevin Harvick and CBS Sports’ Matt Mayer spoke about Busch and Jimmie Johnson’s winless streak. According to Harvick, he too has been in that kind of position several times. On the subject of Johnson’s and Busch’s winless streaks, he acknowledged that the duo have won several races in their careers.

Harvick said, “It’s a reminder that we need to enjoy where we’re at right now and enjoy it week to week. Because you just never know when that momentum is going to stop.”

According to Harvick, there is no guarantee that Busch and Johnson will keep up the momentum. He acknowledged that Busch has had to suffer through a bit of bad luck, but had been close to winning on several occasions.

Harvick admitted that Busch’s car has not been as quick as it was last year. He also alluded to unpredictability being a feature of the sport. At times, things might work out perfectly. But on other occasions, drivers like Busch and Johnson might end up in situations that may not work in their favor.

Harvick said, “Sometimes, how your car’s running, doesn’t always dictate where your finishes are gonna be. Sometimes you just go through those streaks of bad luck. It’s a great reminder to enjoy what we’re doing, we’ve experienced that before.”

Kevin Harvick concluded by saying that he did not take the things they did for granted. Now, Harvick is looking forward to this weekend’s race at Las Vegas Speedway. The #4 driver is in a prime position to win the 2020 Cup Series championship and has bagged yet another pole. It is also worth noting that Harvick is on the hunt for a record 10th win of the season.
