The NASCAR paddock is off to the Richmond International Raceway this weekend. However, quite a few drivers like William Byron, have raced at the track in 2020, even though this is the first time the paddock has visited Virginia.

To be precise, several drivers have taken part in iRacing events and Richmond was one of the venues they races at. He acknowledged that he learned a few things from the iRacing event.

Byron also confessed that winning the Richmond online event gave him some confidence. However, the driver said, “We’ve had a ton of races since then, and while things have changed in the cup series, we try to adapt and take notes.”

What else did William Byron say?

The Hendrick Motorsports driver was speaking on Twitter during a fan interaction session. Fans were given an opportunity to ask the #24 driver a few questions on any subject.

Eventually, the conversation turned to iRacing because the drivers needed to while away the time during lockdown. At that time, the COVID-19 pandemic had just struck and NASCAR was one of many sporting franchises that were on hold.

With no on-track action for a while, and fans being starved of any action, NASCAR turned to the virtual world. To be precise, several drivers participated in iRacing races against each other.

On a few other occasions, some drivers even went up against other gamers and a few fans as well. All in all, in spite of a few hiccups, they all truly enjoyed themselves.

William Byron even had the honour of winning the virtual race at the Richmond International speedway. Of course, the 22-year old will be hoping to repeat the feat in real life.

Truthfully, he has an excellent chance, as he is starting in 5th place at the raceway. However, he and the other drivers have to try everything in their arsenal to stop Kevin Harvick.
