Amid the ongoing debates in NASCAR after the Dover Race, JGR driver Denny Hamlin has dished out yet another interesting podcast. While the main focus of this week’s podcast was uncovering Monday’s race events, Hamlin was brought face to face with the ugly start of his season when his co-host brought up a harsh reality.

Given the #11 driver’s past run-ins with the organization and the whole penalty debacle, his co-host, Jared Allen shed light on how different the current scenario would’ve been if things hadn’t gone down the way they did.

Denny Hamlin’s penalty proves way too costly!

With his rival, Ross Chastain being the talk of the town, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver briefly looked back in time. All hell broke loose when the JGR driver admitted to wrecking Chastain as an act of retaliation. The NASCAR community had mixed responses, with some claiming it was the right reaction while the rest sided against the driver. Surprisingly, the sanctioning body had no confusion on the matter as they handed out the driver a massive penalty of $50,000 and more importantly 25 points, which prove way too costly at this point in time.

Now looking at a broader picture, Allen pointed out, “I don’t know if there is any consolation prize for you. But if you didn’t have your 25 points taken away a few weeks ago, you’d be third in points right now.”

To this, the veteran driver gave a mature answer. He said, “Well, we did [get our points taken away], that doesn’t matter, Jared.”

While Allen mentioned this fact, poking the driver, highlighting how each point matters as far as playoffs are concerned, the listeners could actually feel the emotion behind Hamlin’s, “that doesn’t matter” admission.

How’s the #11 driver doing on the points table? Let’s look at the Hamlin-Chastain feud that got him there

Despite the driver’s appeal against his penalty, the #11 driver did not receive positive news when the appeals panel decided to uphold his penalty. Besides the heavy monetary penalty, the organization has really caught the driver in a bad position with 25 invaluable points taken away from him.

The most astonishing aspect of the whole debacle is his rivalry with the ‘Watermelon Man.’ Interestingly, Chastain who initiated the tussle with Hamlin last year is still at loose, causing all the havoc inside the oval. His latest victim was Brennan Poole and Kyle Larson at Dover!
