As the NASCAR Cup Series embarks on its inaugural race in the streets of Chicago, fans are amped up. In the practice and qualifying races, some of the drivers, including Kevin Harvick, William Byron, and Chase Elliott, have already seen the treachery of the track first-hand. Moreover, Kyle Busch has added an obvious but very important comment to the mix: the lack of proper visuals.

NASCAR’s weekend in Chicago has already seen a few incidents, as seen in the practice sessions. The challenge of the track’s tight confines, numerous braking zones, racing in close quarters, plus the added difficulty of rain, make the margin for error quite slim. Kyle Busch likened it to Road America, but with the walls surrounding much of the circuit, he noted there is less room for drivers to make corrections.

Busch‘s comments reflect the trepidation shared by drivers and teams, who dread the potential chaos that rain could bring. After the qualifying race, in an interview shared by FrontStretch, Busch was asked, “If you can improve one thing on this course, what would it be?”

With a grim expression, Busch replied, “There’s definitely a couple of tight angles of some corners. But I mean, what are you gonna do, right … you can’t really soften them much.”

Talking about the difficulty that the drivers will face because of a congested field, Busch added, “There are curves and everything else there, so all I did, like I said, I feel like the visuals are going to be difficult tomorrow in traffic behind guys, you know being, especially the start getting into turn one and turn two, all that sort of stuff.

“Figuring all that out, it’s just going to be a bit of a handful and really slow, most likely to begin with before you kind of get spread out a little bit pace will get faster.” 

But, as Busch pointed out, fans often enjoy the mayhem of accidents and crashes brought by such races. It may not be what drivers look forward to.

Still, the unpredictability and spectacular nature of a rain-soaked Chicago Street race could surely garner social media buzz and create unforgettable moments.
