If you have ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in a stock car racing team during the off-season, Joe Gibbs Racing has the perfect answer for you! The team recently took to social media to share an intriguing update, giving fans an inside look into the shop’s work schedule when the garages are no longer filled with drivers and their pit crews!

The 2023 season could have gone better for JGR. The team had drivers in the final races of both the Cup and Xfinity Series but failed to get the job done. The goal for 2024 will surely be to take that extra step and win a championship. But before the action gets underway, some things need to be sorted inside the shop.

In a recent short released on YouTube, Joe Gibbs Racing revealed its team’s off-season activities, and it is a lot. There might not be any cars being worked on or built, but the pit boxes undergo a lot of maintenance and repair work. The video also showed how the pit crews work on fine-tuning their craft.

“So what happens at a NASCAR race shop during the off-season? There’s no more cars being built or being worked on. This time of the year is for maintenance. The pit boxes make it back to the shop to be unwrapped and repaired. All our different carts and toolboxes are taken apart,” the video stated.

“The pit crews get some time off, but they’re still around doing plenty of practice. Used vinyl is everywhere as the wraps come off of everything including the haulers. Before you know it, it will be time to re-wrap everything, get some cars together, and hit the road for the first race,” it added.

The off-season is a time for maintenance and preparation for every single team and Joe Gibbs Racing is no different. The team has a big year lined up ahead, especially when it comes to their Xfinity Series program, which has a fine balance of youth and experience.

JGR has completely revamped its 2024 Xfinity Series driver lineup with several new faces in the team. Sheldon Creed and Chandler Smith will be the two full-time drivers. The part-timers will consist of Ryan Truex, William Sawalich, Joe Graf Jr., Taylor Gray, John Hunter Nemechek, and Aric Almirola.

“Our 2024 roster has a great balance of experience, youth, wisdom, and talent. We believe the veteran drivers will continually benchmark our program, compliment, and challenge each other, as well as assist our younger drivers to further develop their skill set. We are also excited about our crew chiefs and the teams they have assembled. We take a lot of pride in not only our program’s on track success, but also in the opportunity to develop and promote our team members,” said Steve DeSouza, EVP of NASCAR Xfinity Series/Development at JGR, as per Racing America.

One take at a time

Drivers these days need to be more like Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace. Well, now you know who my favorites are. For me, it all began with my interest in F1, but I was just tired of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen showing unparalleled dominance.
