One of the more anticipated events this year is the Chicago Street Race. Despite the negative sentiment surrounding the event, one has to agree that this being the first-ever street circuit in Cup Series, it might be exciting. However, recently it was announced that NASCAR plans to host a music festival alongside the main race over that weekend.
They also announced the lineup for the event on Twitter. Soon, scores of fans unloaded their feelings about the entire thing over social media. One thing that bugged the majority of the people, was the outrageous price of the event.

According to the Twitter post, there would be a star-studded lineup for the event. Including the likes of Chain Smokers, Miranda Lambert, and a few more. Also, the race weekend would be a two-day festival combining racing with music.
Although that sounds like a fantastic thing upfront, the overly expensive pricing isn’t making the fans happy. The NASCAR Chicago website listed that just the general admission tickets would cost a whopping $269. But, that one ticket would cover both the race weekend and the music festival at once.

A majority of the fans were unhappy over the pricing of general admission tickets. Some of them argued that for the same price, two people could get four-day access along with garage passes for the Rolex 24 instead.
At 269.00 though is not worth it

Two people can get four day access with garage passes at this year’s #Rolex24 for LESS than what you’re offering for a SINGLE GA ticket. What the hell?

I would not go to downtown Chicago for this race if they were giving tickets away. I hope it goes well, BUT?!

Judging by the atmosphere, there isn’t a whole amount of positivity surrounding the weekend. Moreover, it just isn’t the astonishing prices turning away heads. A lot of fans are still agitated over NASCAR’s choice for a street race. Many have argued that the race would not be exciting.
Although, nothing can be guessed with certainty this early. One would have to wait till July to witness the event firsthand to pass judgment. However, one thing is for sure, there’s going to be quite a buzz around this event, both positive and negative, among the fans of the sport. Hopefully, the weekend does not bore out the audience and actually works out to be a charm. But again, who knows?
