“I hear more cheers than boos.” This is what Denny Hamlin said at the frontstretch after taking the win* at Pocono Raceway. The cheers were obvious, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver had just won the 49th race of his career.

But the boos?

Well, they were because Hamlin had somewhat of a payback moment during the race against, you guessed it, Ross Chastain.

At one point in the race, the #11 on the bottom drove to the top, where the #1 was pushed into the wall, causing the Trackhouse Racing Camaro to wreck pretty bad.

Speaking about this incident in his post-race interview, Hamlin asked rhetorically, “What would you want me to do? What would you expect me to do?”

He added that he had the position on him, that Chastain simply “ran out of racetrack.”

As for whether this was the full payback or the end of it, Hamlin emphasized on one thing: he wants the respect.

“We’re just going to keep racing hard until we get the respect back from these guys,” the JGR driver said. “We’ve been wrecked four times, twice while leading in the last 10 months and I’m at the end of it.”

After being released from the infield care center, Ross Chastain kept it easy, kept it cool, and kept it real. He was confronted by the obvious question, what did he think of Denny Hamlin wrecking him?

To which, Chastain said, he had it coming.

“I think that’s something that’s been owed to me for a few months now,” the #1 driver said. “I’ve been owed that and probably a few more for a few months now.”
