Joey Logano enters the NASCAR Cup Series playoff elimination race at the Charlotte Roval with a 21-point hold over the final transfer spot and over his on-track nemesis, Kyle Busch. The Roval is already famous for throwing around lots of challenges for drivers. Adding to the challenge is the high chance of rain.

Logano has a solid record in the two playoff races at the Roval so far. He finished in the top-10 on both occasions, but he knows he’s not safe with all the uncertainties. While he does have a bit of a cushion at the 8th spot, Logano will still be wary of the four drivers below him in the standings.

Logano is prepared to do whatever it takes to make the next round at Charlotte.

How Joey Logano plans to approach the Roval race

During a media interaction, Logano said, “From the looks of the weather, we got plenty of stuff to look at. It’s hard to say. Honestly, you just go out there and try to maximize your points throughout the day. That’s all you can do.

If that means you finish 10th, you got a bunch of stage points and that’s what it took to get through. It’s whatever it takes to get through the round.”

The 30-year-old opined that Sunday’s race is all about being smart on the race track. As he has said in the past, Logano feels it is important for the drivers to take some risks this weekend. Make passes and other such things, if that’s what it takes, feels Logano.

“Crazy things can happen”

Given the numerous factors at play, Logano is not too upbeat about the 21-point cushion. He would not be surprised if chaos ensues at Charlotte, just like it did at Talladega last weekend.

“As we know at the Roval already, a lot of crazy things can happen. Then you throw in the very high chance of rain coming into it. What that means, I have no idea,” Logano said. “All I know there’s no run-off at that race track. Most of the time it’s gonna end up in colliding with a wall,” he expressed further.

Logano can also take confidence from his 9th place finish at the Daytona road course a couple of months ago. He is known for making those bold moves on the track, and Logano will not hold back this Sunday, with so much at stake.
