Kyle Busch has finally decided on his future, as he joins Richard Childress Racing in 2023. But the fans doubt he will stay with the team long-term. Surprisingly enough, this is exactly what happened when Dale Earnhardt announced he will race for the team in 1984.

Dale Earnhardt announced he will compete in the #3 car back in 1984. And everyone doubted he will stay with the team. Because well, he raced half a season for RCR in 1981 but moved over to Bud Moore Engineering the next year. Naturally, fans didn’t expect him to stay with Childress in 1984 either. Oh, boy, did he not prove them wrong.

Now the fans think Kyle Busch will follow the same trajectory, and change his team in a year. But Childress had something to say on that matter.

He said, “I’ll tell you, just sitting down and talking to Kyle, there is no doubt in my mind that we’ll make a great team.” And the team owner sure says that with a lot of pride and confidence in his voice. He added, “When Dale [Earnhardt] first came to me, the media came and told us ‘this won’t last a year’, we lasted 20 years.” Could he know something we don’t? Either way, there is no doubt that he is fast. Moreover, he could be exactly the kind of speed and experience RCR needs behind the wheel of one of their cars.

Because both the #8 and #3 teams have won and are competing for the playoffs. On top of that, the #8 is performing consistently well race after race. So they sure don’t have a bad car or bad teams. Maybe he will be the vehicle that propels RCR (pin intended) into the victory lane multiple times and compete with the top dogs like Hendrick Motorsports.

But only time will tell.

And the two-time Cup Series Champion sure is happy to be a part of the team as he said, “RCR has an impressive history in NASCAR and I’m honored that Richard is putting his trust in me to come in and continue to build on that legacy,”

How will this deal turn out? Do you think this is the best thing to happen to the team and the driver? Or it’s all just a big mistake? Let us know in the comments.
