When Amy Earnhardt said that she wants “to invite everyone into the crazy, beautiful, and sometimes messy world we live in,” she meant it. It has hardly been five months since ‘Bless Your Hardt’ was released. Yet we have already discovered sides to Dale Earnhardt Jr that nobody knew about before. After all, the NASCAR legend’s lady love, who married him in 2016, would know all the spicy snippets. Yet at one time, she was very annoyed with Dale Jr.’s antics.

Like any other strong relationship with rock-solid foundations, the Earnhardt couple has weathered challenges. Ranging from a disconnect in racing interests to misaligned routines, Dale Jr. and Amy have overcome a lot of hurdles. However, a misshapen Las Vegas outing left Amy Earnhardt boiling in anger.

Dale Jr’s late-night escapade

When NASCAR visited Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March, we all know who won on and off the track. Josh Berry picked up his career’s first win while Denny Hamlin hit a jackpot in the casinos. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver left fans drooling over his above $200,000 loot. At the same time, Dale Earnhardt Jr also hoped to get lucky in those slot machines. However, the 26-time Cup Series race winner’s luck did not play out. He tried hard till quite late at night before finally giving up and heading back to his hotel room. Right then, disaster struck as Junior discovered that he had lost his key. At the time, Amy Earnhardt was sleeping inside the room. After repeated failures, Dale Jr. fell on the last resort – to set off an emergency alarm on his wife’s phone.

And that left Amy Earnhardt furious. In a recent episode of ‘Bless Your Hardt’, she recounted how she lost her temper while dressed in her sleep suit. “Around 3 or 4 o’clock, he was tired. But at 5:30, I started to find my phone pinging so that he can wake me up and I can come downstairs and get him. I come downstairs in my robe, bare feet madder than a hornet, trying to find him. And he’s nowhere to be found. I go down to the little bar…I turn around and I see people coming…So I go back upstairs, (and) I didn’t have my phone. And I text him some really aggressive, ‘Where the f— are you’ type text messages. Then I’m like, I’m going to be downstairs in that lobby, you beat me down there…He was a hot mess.”

The wild nightly escapade that Dale Jr. went on drew Amy into it as well, and she was not happy about it. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has admitted his love for casinos earlier, especially regarding a new partnership. He was announced as the brand ambassador of Hard Rock International. Although known mostly for its cafes and apparel, it is also known for its casinos. So, after Dale Jr. got locked out of his room, he admitted that he spent more time around the slot machines before deciding to tick off Amy. He said, “I might have had another beer, I might have played another slot or two. Finally, I’m like, ‘God, I’m tired.’ This is like an emergency. Last resort. I’m going to hit the hit and find my phone on her phone, so her phone starts ringing like it’s lost, and boy, she doesn’t love that.” Crazy outages! But, of course, this is not the first time Amy was enraged or frustrated with Dale’s actions!

Remember the one bathroom encounter from early in their relationship that left Amy completely stunned? “I’m brushing my teeth and this man sits down behind me to take a number two and I turn around with my toothbrush in my mouth like, ‘what the hell’. And he goes ‘oh yeah, this is the way it’s going to be, girl!’… I’m like, ‘the f— it is I am out’… I couldn’t believe it, that’s the kind of attitude I was dealing with in general,” Amy said about the preposterous habits. Glad to see that those antics only strengthen their relationship.

The fact that they are more different from similar to each other makes them ‘better halves’! One likes it clean, the other… not so much. One is an animal for the road, and the other is calm and composed. No wonder we see the composed one frustrated most of the time. However, in this case, there was another reason that threw Amy off, as it could have avoided this entire mess. And the answer to that lies in Dale Jr.’s social awkwardness.

Opting for solitude even in distress

Well, most NASCAR personalities can be vibrant in the media. For instance, Denny Hamlin is an active spokesperson of the sport and does not shy away from the camera. But there is also another type of racers, which encapsulates the more taciturn kind. Christopher Bell is a solid example among active Cup drivers. The Joe Gibbs Racing star has admitted to his reticent nature many times, even attributing his excellence to it. Similarly, Dale Jr used to harbor such an attitude in NASCAR. Until 2015, the veteran avoided a big media presence, preferring to slip out of the racetrack during press conferences. It was only after his Daytona 500 victory that Dale Jr. opened an X account and amplified his presence. However, now it seems that Dale Jr.’s old habit has returned.

When Dale Jr. could not find his key to the hotel room, he had an option to get back in. But he opted not to choose it because it involved more talking to the hotel staff. And that may have irritated Amy Earnhardt a little more. Dale Jr. recounted what happened: “For two hours, I walked this hotel, like the perimeter of the casino…at least half a mile to walk the casino. I walk to the front desk and I’m like, ‘Hey, I’m in this hotel and I don’t have a key’…I told them the room, and they’re like, ‘Oh, that’s the Novel tower, you gotta go over to the reception on the other side’…And I just walk away. Amy’s like, ‘Why didn’t you go to the other one?’ I’m like, ‘I didn’t know where it was’…I would rather just go wandering off and figure it out myself.” Classic Dale Junior fatigue!
