Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suarez is one of the few non-American-born drivers to have raced in the NASCAR Cup Series full-time. Who is Daniel Suarez?

Daniel Suarez is a full-time Cup Series driver with Trackhouse Racing, driving the #99 car. Over the course of his career, the Mexican-born racer has won several accolades, the most notable being the 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Series title win. Apart from that, he was named the 2015 Xfinity Series Rookie of the Year and the 2010 NASCAR Corona Series Rookie of the Year.

He also made history in the Cup Series in 2022 when he won the Sonoma race and became the first Mexican-born driver to win a race in NASCAR’s biggest competition. The Trackhouse Racing star is not married yet, but he is engaged to Julia Piquet. Daniel Suarez popped the question to Piquet in 2022 while they were on vacation in Europe, more specifically, when they were traveling from Paris to Monaco. It’s only fitting that a motorsports couple got engaged en route to one of the most iconic destinations for racing in the world.

At the time, the Trackhouse Racing star shared a picture of himself on one knee as he presented the ring to her fiance.

Who is Julia Piquet?

Julia Piquet is a woman who comes from motorsports royalty. She is the daughter of 3-time Formula One world champion and racing icon, Nelson Piquet. Despite her family being from Brazil, Julia was born in Miami on May 8, 1992. She may be closely related to the world of motorsports, but for her profession, has chosen to dive into the health and wellness industry. According to her Instagram handle, she is a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, and she graduated from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in 2023.

Apart from her personal Instagram handle, she has an account solely dedicated to her profession. Her venture is in its nascent stages but can very well become one of the leading brands in the industry.

How did the couple meet?

The story of how Daniel Suarez and Julia Piquet met for the first time is quite intriguing and heartwarming. At the time, Suarez had only one dream, to make it big in NASCAR. However, moving to a new country brings with it a lot of challenges. One such challenge that the Trackhouse Racing driver faced when he first moved to the United States was language. He may be proficient in English now, but back then, it was extremely difficult for the #99 driver to communicate.

Thankfully, Daniel Suarez could rely on a fellow motorsports athlete with Formula One aspirations, Nelson Piquet Jr. The two became close friends as Piquet Jr helped Suarez communicate in a foreign land. It turns out that Piquet Jr helped Suarez find the love of his life as well when he introduced the him to his sister Julia Piquet. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Julia Piquet is one of 7 kids that her father had. One of them is Kelly Piquet, who is also the girlfriend of Formula One world champion, Max Verstappen. The couple has been dating for a long time and if everything turns out well, Daniel Suarez could officially be a part of a family with the greatest race car drivers of all time. He shared Christmas in 2023 with the Piquet family and Verstappen was present. He was asked about his relationship with the Red Bull Racing driver by The Athletic earlier and Suarez only had positive things to say.

“He’s a great guy. He’s been very successful and he’s very smart. Especially for his age, he’s extremely smart, very focused, very calm. Which I’m not surprised. I mean, he’s been in Formula One already for seven years or so. And he shows that. He shows how mature, smart and calm he is. He’s very easygoing, like you’re talking to any other race car driver in the Truck Series. Very easygoing guy. I have a lot of respect for him,” the Cup Series driver said.

Does Daniel Suarez and Julia Piquet have any children?

The Trackhouse Racing star is yet to be a father, but he has certainly thought about how to raise his child, especially if they express interest in motorsports. Unlike a lot of Cup Series drivers, Daniel Suarez does not come from a racing background. A lot of what he has learned in his career has been things he has picked up on the job, which can be extremely challenging, to say the least. The 32-year-old does not want his kids to go through the same struggles if they express an interest in what he does.

“I say this to Julia all the time: If one day we have a kid and it happens he or she is interested in racing, it will be very cool for me to try to tell him or her all the experiences I have had in my life. Because of many of these experiences, I have had to learn them the hard way,” the Trackhouse Racing star had said.

What does the 2024 Cup Series hold for Daniel Suarez?

Let’s face it, the 2023 Cup Series season was a disappointment as far as Daniel Suarez was concerned. He failed to make it through to the playoffs after finishing 10th in the competition the year before. Therefore, the goal for the 2024 Cup Series season is simple –  qualify for the playoffs. However, knowing how competitive and hungry he is, Suarez would not be happy with just a round of 16 appearance. The driver of the #99 will be pushing to go as deep into the playoffs as possible and hopefully outdo his career-best finish of 10th.

The new season will bring a lot of challenges and if he does not perform well, Suarez may be out of a Cup Series seat in 2025. Things will not be easy, but one thing is for certain, the driver of the #99 car will give it his 100% and then some.
