As Clint Bowyer’s contract with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) is set to expire at the end of the season, the focus was on where his Silly Season was going. However, in a sudden announcement, Clint Bowyer said he is set to step away from full-time racing next season, effectively vacating the #14 car.

He will take up a role in broadcasting next season, in the Fox Sports NASCAR booth. With the No. 14 car now officially without a driver for next season, Chase Briscoe emerges as the favorite to bag his Cup Series debut.

With his performances in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this year, it is just a matter of time before Briscoe gets the Cup call. Now, with a seat available at Stewart-Haas Racing itself, Briscoe should fit right in.

Why Chase Briscoe is likely to replace Clint Bowyer

Ford’s involvement in Stewart-Haas Racing also helps Briscoe greatly. They have invested in him and he is under contract with them for another year already. At the same time, Briscoe is seen as a future star of the sport.

At the start of the season, Briscoe said he felt the need to win at least eight races this season in the Xfinity Series to be in contention for a Cup call. He did so with a few races to go and has a great shot at a 10-win season. Recently, Briscoe also spoke about a potential Cup seat and a certain factor that helps his cause.

While it is believed no practice and qualifying is a big disadvantage for rookies who have no idea about a particular track, Briscoe chose to see the bright side of it.

“I’m not against the no practice thing. It honestly, in my eyes, helps my situation if I get a move up. Because then you just have to figure it out and go,” Briscoe said.

Everybody’s on the same playing field. Nobody’s car drives perfect. It’s back in the driver’s hands. I’m not against it, I actually kinda like it,” he added.

This shows his confidence and eagerness to get out there among the big guns. Meanwhile, Briscoe would have big shoes to fill if he replaces Bowyer in the No. 14 car. Bowyer himself joined Stewart-Haas Racing in 2017 as a replacement for Tony Stewart.
